What is Groove to Improve?

Groove to Improve is an initiative by Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) and Health Sciences University (HSU), supported by Wessex Health Partners.

This Free six-week dance programme is designed specifically for older adults with persistent low back pain. Led by expert dance facilitators and supported by Researchers from Health Sciences University, the sessions blend creative movement with gentle exercise, helping participants:

✔ Move with more confidence
✔ Stay active in a social, supportive setting
✔ Develop long-term exercise habits

About the Free Programme

Groove to Improve is a fully funded programme because it is part of a research study exploring new approaches to managing long-term chronic low back pain.

By taking part, participants will help researchers:

✔ Investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of dance as a therapeutic intervention for chronic low back pain.
✔ Assess whether structured dance programmes improve quality of life, including physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.
✔ Analyse whether dance therapy can reduce pain levels and improve patient-reported pain outcomes.
✔ Explore how dance-based movement affects mobility, functional capacity, and the ability to perform everyday activities.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, sign up today and be part of a study that could help shape future treatment options for chronic low back pain.
