How to Book Your Ultrasound

We offer two ways to book your Ultrasound scan:

  • Option 1: Book with a Referral from Your GP or Healthcare Provider
  • Option 2: Use Our Rapid Access Service (No Referral Needed)

Option 1: Book with a Referral

If your GP or healthcare provider has recommended an Ultrasound, you can easily book your scan with us through a referral. This is the traditional route and ensures that your scan is fully integrated into your ongoing healthcare plan.

What to Do Next:

  • Speak with your GP or healthcare provider about getting a referral to our Ultrasound service.
  • Once you have your referral, your healthcare provider can fill out our referral form.

Cost:

  • £105 per body part.

Option 2: Rapid Access (No Referral Needed)

Need an ultrasound scan urgently but don’t have a referral? Our Rapid Access service allows you to book directly without needing to go through your GP first. This is perfect for those seeking quick diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal conditions.

How It Works:

  • Complete our online form to receive a call-back from one of our senior clinicians.
  • If imaging is deemed necessary, you’ll be booked for your appointment promptly.
  • After your scan, you’ll have a follow-up review to discuss your results.

Cost:

  • £155 per body part

What’s Included:

  • Free initial assessment. (pay nothing until your scan)
  • Follow-up review session with a clinician to discuss your results.

Short Wait Times

We guarantee appointments within 7-14 days and we make sure you receive a full report within one week of your scan, if not earlier.

We understand the urgent need many of our patients have for scanning. If you’re looking to get an appointment right away and not have to wait long for your results, our highly trained team can put you at ease.

No GP Referral Required

We accept referrals from all registered health care professionals, meaning there’s no need for you to get a GP appointment first.

Whether you’ve been referred by one of our onsite clinical departments, from an external health care professional, or looking for a second opinion, we can support your needs.

Our highly skilled sonography team support the HSU School of Radiology and students on the MSc Medical Ultrasound course with placement opportunities in our clinic. As such, your scan, or part of your scan, may be completed by a student under supervision from one of our qualified specialists – if you have any questions regarding this please contact us, or ask the booking team when they make your appointment.

Are there any risks to Ultrasound?

No, there are no known risks with ultrasound and it is considered to be very safe.

Can I bring a relative / friend?

Yes, we are more than happy for you to be accompanied on your visit.

How long does an ultrasound scan take?

Scans usually take about 10 – 15 minutes without delays. Your total time in the clinic is likely to be around 30 – 40 minutes.

Are there any side-effects to ultrasound?

There are no side-effects to ultrasound. You can drive home or return to work as necessary afterwards. Please note: this doesn’t apply to Ultrasound guided injections.

When will I get the results of my ultrasound scan?

After your scan, the images will be examined by the sonographer who will prepare a report of their findings. This may take some time to reach your referring doctor, but is normally less than 14 working days.

What is the difference between the Rapid Access service and the standard referral process?

The Rapid Access service allows you to book an ultrasound without a GP or healthcare provider referral, providing quicker access to imaging. The standard referral process involves getting a referral from your GP or healthcare provider before booking your scan.

Why does Rapid Access cost more?

The additional £50 covers the expedited service and the follow up report, ensuring you receive prompt care without the need for a referral.

Can I use the Rapid Access service for all types of ultrasound scans?

The Rapid Access service is available for musculoskeletal, gynaecology, and general medicine ultrasound scans. If you have specific concerns, our team can guide you to ensure this is the best option for you.
