Dr. Khalid Alaib

Pain Management Consultant

Dr Khalid Alaib is a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia with specialist expertise in the assessment and management of persistent, complex and difficult-to-treat pain conditions.

Meet Dr. Khalid Alaib

As Consultant Lead for Pain Medicine at Dorset Pain Clinic, Dr Khalid Alaib leads the initial clinical assessment and diagnosis of each patient, working closely with radiology, physiotherapy and rehabilitation colleagues to build a personalised treatment plan. Rather than focusing on a single scan finding or procedure, he considers each patient’s symptoms, history, examination, imaging and previous treatment to identify what is really driving their pain.

His principal clinical interests include:

  • Persistent back and neck pain, including disc-related and radicular pain (sciatica)
  • Neuropathic and nerve-related pain
  • Complex regional pain syndrome
  • Persistent shoulder, pelvic and coccygeal pain
  • Headache and facial pain
  • Persistent pain following injury or surgery
  • Complex pain involving physical, psychological and social factors

He offers a range of image-guided procedures for appropriately selected patients, including epidural injections, selective nerve root injections, sacroiliac joint injections, facet joint procedures and medial branch blocks.

At Dorset Pain Clinic, Dr Alaib works closely with Consultant Radiologist and Interventional Pain Specialist Dr Laith Al-Obaidi, providing an integrated pathway from specialist assessment and imaging review through to diagnosis, intervention and rehabilitation. Procedures are recommended only where there is a clear indication and a realistic likelihood of benefit; where they are not, patients are given honest advice on alternatives such as medication, physiotherapy, psychological support or specialist referral.

Dr Alaib qualified in medicine in 1998 and trained in anaesthesia, intensive care and pain management, gaining Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland and a postgraduate diploma in pain medicine in Dublin. He is an Associate Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and its Faculty of Pain Medicine, and has worked at consultant level since 2015, including senior pain medicine leadership roles within the NHS.

Patients are given time to explain their symptoms and concerns, and to understand their diagnosis and treatment options. His aim is to help each patient achieve meaningful improvement in function and quality of life through safe, evidence-based, individually tailored care.
