What To Expect from Your Orthopaedic Appointment?

During your appointment, Mr. Muthian will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms in depth, and may suggest imaging or other diagnostic tests to support a precise diagnosis.

Here’s how the process typically works:

Initial Consultation – You’ll meet with Mr. Muthian to discuss your concerns. This consultation allows him to fully understand your needs and recommend next steps tailored to you.

Diagnostic Imaging – If further clarity is needed, Mr. Muthian may request imaging (such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI) this can be done on-site via our state-of-the-art Clinical Imaging Services.

Discuss Treatment Options – You’ll have the chance to review treatment options such as targeted injections or a rehabilitation programme to manage symptoms and improve strength, depending on your diagnosis.

Consider Surgical Options – If surgery is recommended, Mr. Muthian will discuss your options in detail. If surgery is considered the best route, you can opt for a private pathway or, if preferred, take the referral back to your GP.

Rehabilitation Programmes – Based on your condition, you might be recommended a rehabilitation or pre-habilitation programme, including health assessments and exercise plans to enhance outcomes if surgery is pursued.

FAQs: Upper Limb Orthopaedic Clinic

What does an Orthopaedic Consultant do?

An Orthopaedic Consultant specialises in the diagnosis of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. At our orthopaedic clinic, Mr. Senthil Muthian, a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, will thoroughly assess your condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment options. This may involve further investigations such as clinical imaging or ultrasound-guided injections.

What is orthopaedics?

Orthopaedics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the care of the musculoskeletal system and disorders, including bones, joints, muscles, and tendons – from sports injuries to degenerative diseases like arthritis. Orthopaedic specialists are trained to treat a wide range of conditions, from trauma (such as fractures and dislocations) to chronic conditions (like arthritis or tendonitis). Orthopaedics includes both non-surgical treatments (such as rehabilitation and injections) and surgical procedures (such as joint replacement or ligament repair).

Where can I find further information on Orthopaedic Surgery?

There are several reliable sources where you can learn more about orthopaedic procedures and conditions. The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) provides comprehensive patient information. At our clinic, we also provide detailed patient information sheets specific to your condition. During your consultation, Mr. Muthian will discuss all aspects of your condition and can recommend additional trusted resources for further reading.

Do I need a referral to see an Orthopaedic Consultant?

No, at our orthopaedic clinic, you don’t need a GP referral to book an appointment with Mr. Muthian. We offer direct access to consultant care, allowing you to seek a second opinion or specialist advice without needing to see your GP first.

What are the next steps after an orthopaedic consultation?

After your consultation, Mr. Muthian may recommend further diagnostic tests (like MRI or ultrasound), prescribe rehabilitation treatments such as physiotherapy, or suggest steroid injections for pain relief. Depending on your condition, we may suggest further tests, physiotherapy, injections, or surgery. If Orthopaedic surgery is required, you’ll be referred to the appropriate specialist to ensure a seamless continuation of care.
