What is Orthotics?

Orthotics is an area of healthcare where we look to work with individuals to help them recover from injury, or manage the symptoms of long term conditions.

What are Orthoses?

Orthoses are devices that are used to provide support and improve function of various parts of the body. They are provided based on each individual’s unique needs and goals and can help individuals overcome physical challenges, alleviate pain and discomfort, and lead active lives. They can be instrumental in managing a wide range of conditions, including:

Orthoses can help manage the symptoms of osteoarthritis and injuries to the knee, ankle, or foot. For instance, knee unloader braces can significantly reduce pain and improve function for those with knee osteoarthritis, enabling a more active lifestyle. Similarly, specialist bracing can improve the management of both acute and chronic knee injuries, such as ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) tears and meniscal injuries.

Individuals living with neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Charcot Marie Tooth, spinal cord injuries, and stroke can benefit greatly from orthoses. These devices can enhance mobility, support function, and improve the quality of life for those affected by these conditions.

Orthotists collaborate with individuals to develop tailored solutions that address their specific needs, whether it’s improving gait, relieving pressure points, or enhancing stability and support.
